The Ford F-150 has been named North American Truck of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car of the year is the Volkswagen Golf.
The press preview days for the North American International Auto Show officially kick off with the awards. The announcements came Monday morning at Cobo Center in Detroit.
The other finalists for the car award were the Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis. The F-150 beat out the Lincoln MKC and Chevrolet Colorado for truck honours.
About 60 automotive journalists vote on winners from the list of finalists.
A vehicle must be all new or substantially changed for eligibility.

The Ford F-150 has some big Canadian connections.
Brave Controls of Windsor, Ont., developed technology that allows Ford to stamp the aluminum parts for its new, lighter aluminum-body F-150, first unveiled at the 2014 North International American Auto Show in Detroit.
The truck also uses engines built at Ford's engine plant in Windsor.
This is the 22nd year for the awards. Organizers accept no advertising, though carmakers try to capitalize on the marketing value of the honours.
