Kevin O'Leary, a CBC commentator and co-host of the business program The Lang & O'Leary Exchange, is leaving the public broadcaster "to pursue new opportunities," CBC says.
O'Leary partnered with his longtime BNN co-host Amanda Lang in 2009 for the launch of The Lang & O'Leary Exchange, as part of the transition of CBC Newsworld into CBC News Network that fall.
O'Leary made a name for himself as an investor and businessman before becoming a television personality. Earlier this year, he said he was leaving the CBC reality series Dragon's Den.
"I want to thank Kevin for all of his contributions to CBC News throughout his time with us. While sometimes controversial, you could always count on him to provide honest insight and a unique perspective," said Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor in chief of CBC News, in a statement released Monday night.
O'Leary, 60, called the public broadcaster "a national treasure" in the statement.
"I'm proud to have been part of its expanding role as a place where ideas that matter to Canadians can be debated from all sides," he said.
"At the CBC, I've had the opportunity to work with world-class producers and journalists, particularly Amanda Lang, with whom I enjoyed having so many intriguing and lively discussions over the years."
The statement also said Lang will helm a new business program beginning this fall.
In a separate statement on Tuesday, Bell Media announced that O'Leary would be joining the media conglomerate as an on-air contributor, to appear on a variety of television and radio programs.
