The latest reading on consumer prices indicates inflation pressures remain well in check in Canada.
Statistics Canada says the annual inflation rate edged up one-tenth of a point to 1.3 per cent last month — less than economists anticipated.
The agency attributes much of the rise to a 6.1 per cent jump in gasoline prices, though the costs of shelter also rose 1.3 per cent from the previous year..
Food prices were only 0.8 per cent higher on average in July than they were a year earlier, the smallest gain in more than three years.
